Filament

Overview
Filament is basically a string of material or 'ink' for 3DPrinting. It's usually plastic, although there are some metallic and composite filaments.
Common 3D Printing Filament Materials
There are a variety of filaments:
PLA:
- Plant derived
- Easy to print with
- Biodegradable
- Not good for outdoors
TPU:
- Flexible
ABS:
- Strong
- Toxic
- Temperature Sensitive (requires enclosure)
- Can be used outdoors
PETG:
- Strong
- Easier to print than ABS
- Can be used outdoors
Nylon:
- Very Strong
- Prints at high temperature (240-260C--should be printed with all-metal hot end)
- Very hydroscopic (can absorb more than 10% of its weight in less than 24 hours if not stored properly).
- Warps like ABS
- PVA-based glue on heated bed surface works best (@75C).
Others:
- Composites
- Additives like iron, wood, wax, conductive materials, carbon fiber, etc.
